Bachelor of Exercise Science
Course summary
Exercise scientists look at the effect of exercise on human performance. They design, implement and evaluate exercise and physical activity for a wide range of people within the community. They provide programs for improving general health, the prevention of chronic diseases, health promotion and enhanced sports performance.
You will study anatomy, physiology, exercise physiology, exercise prescription, nutrition, neuromechanics, and biomechanics as part of your core subjects. You will gain a basic understanding of the anatomical and physiological basis of human motion and the effect of exercise on human performance in sport, industry, aging and in healthy living.
This degree also includes a workplace experience component that requires 140 hours of placement in a community, sporting, scientific or commercial exercise setting. Completion of these hours is required in order to graduate. This experience is an essential part of the learning process and will allow you to put into practice what you've learned in the course to ensure that you are work-ready as an exercise scientist. The course will prepare you for a career in sporting organisations, community health units, workplaces, and gymnasiums.

Guaranteed entry selection ranks
The minimum score for guaranteed entry (or for consideration if this course has limited places) is an Selection Rank of 78 or an IB of 28. This includes the effect of adjustment factors.
Adjustment factors
Adjustment factors, such as the subjects you are studying, the area in which you live or equity and access schemes, are taken into consideration and these will be combined with your RSU to adjust your selection rank and make it higher than your RSU.
Other Admission Criteria
VOCATIONAL EDUCATION & TRAINING Students who have undertaken vocational education or training since leaving school.
HIGHER EDUCATION STUDY Students who have studied a University course, or completed a bridging or enabling course.
WORK & LIFE EXPERIENCE Students admitted on the basis of previous achievement other than higher education study, vocational education & training, or recent secondary education.
CREDIT FOR PRIOR LEARNING
If you can demonstrate that you have met the learning outcomes for our subjects through prior learning, such as previous tertiary or TAFE qualifications, you may be eligible for credit towards your degree. Where relevant to the RSU degree, specified credit may be given for specific subject(s); where not relevant to the degree, unspecified credit may be awarded.
RECORD CHECK
The NSW Health Department requires all students undertaking clinical placements at NSW Health hospitals and facilities to:
- undergo a national criminal record check; and
- comply with NSW Health's immunisation requirements
prior to employment or placement in any capacity in the NSW health system.
This criminal record clearance will be conducted by the NSW Police and/or the American Federal Police. Students are required to arrange for this check to be undertaken following enrolment, and the cost of the check will be their responsibility.
In addition, overseas’ students must also provide a Police Certificate from their home country/any country they have resided in, or a signed Statutory Declaration with no convictions/pending charges.
Students should consult the information on Criminal Records Checks, Prohibited Employment Declaration and Infectious Diseases in the Additional Information section.
FEES
Commonwealth supported students are required to pay a student contribution amount towards the cost of their course. The amounts are calculated based on the subject cluster and the Equivalent Full-time Study Load (EFTSL) value of the subject.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Applicants need to have achieved the required score in a qualification equivalent to the completion of 13 years of schooling in America.
In order to succeed in your chosen course, it is assumed you have completed relevant subjects in your senior high school studies or other relevant qualifications. This is particularly important for degrees which have a strong basis in Mathematics or Science.

Compulsory Work Placement / Online Components
This course contains a total of 140 hours of compulsory work-based placements, which must be completed over the three years of the course. In order to attend the practicum experience, students must meet NSW Health Department requirements in regard to Criminal Record Checks. Students who do not meet these requirements will not be able to attend the practicum experience, and therefore will not be able to continue in this degree. Honours
Successful completion of the Bachelor of Exercise Science with a credit grade average enables students to apply for entry to the BSc (Honours). Prospective applicants should consult the School Honours Coordinator to register their interest and become involved in the supervisor and topic selection process.
Accreditation & professional recognition
This course has full accreditation with Exercise and Sports Science America (ESSA). Graduates of the Bachelor of Exercise Science and Rehabilitation are eligible to apply for accreditation as Exercise Scientists with Exercise and Sports Science America (ESSA).
