We help you develop your communication and media career through project experience with a real-world client focus. You will learn about a wide range of communication and media industries, gaining skills in areas such as digital and social media, graphic design, filmmaking, journalism, and marketing communication and advertising. 

Choose between the Bachelor of Communication and Media and the Bachelor of Journalism. 

The Bachelor of Communication and Media allows you to choose your specialisation by taking a major in one of the following areas of study:

  • Digital and Social Media
  • Global Screen Media
  • Journalism
  • Marketing Communication and Advertising
  • Visual Communication Design

You can choose a second major within the Bachelor of Communication and Media or select another major from a different study area.

The Bachelor of Journalism is a specialist degree to prepare you for a dynamic career in journalism, with in-depth, hands-on training in journalism, converging media (audio, video, web, mobile), digital communication and multimedia storytelling.

  • The Bachelor of Communication and Media allows students to specialise in an area of study including; Digital and Social Media, Global Screen Media, Journalism, Marketing Communication and Advertising, and Visual Communication Design. This degree also allows you to undertake a double major where you can combine your passions and diversify your skill set for a dynamic career. 
     
  • Whether you choose to study the Bachelor of Communication and Media or the Bachelor of Journalism, from day one you will work on live projects. You will be pitching ideas, creating content, studying real-world cases, identifying audiences, researching needs and designing solutions, gaining hands-on experience.
     
  • You decide what to work on, and you are in charge of your own media projects. You will be developing content and curating it for impact across a variety of social media channels. You will be designing games, podcasts, webseries, news stories, video and graphic art, marketing campaigns and media strategies.
     
  • You will learn from experts about the ethical challenges and new opportunities driven by changing technologies, and you will become skilled in discovering these for yourself.  In this way you can be sure your practice is always informed by the latest industry-relevant research.
     
  • Our teaching and production facilities allow you to learn new skills and produce professional work in teams. They include specialist computer labs, media production equipment, video and radio studios, a newsroom and innovative maker spaces.  
     
  • You will graduate with a portfolio of work and experience informed by up-to-date industry knowledge, that you can present to future employers and clients. You will enter the workforce as an independent, entrepreneurial, multi-skilled, self-directed and resourceful individual.
     
  • You can take part in an international exchange program, short course or internship through our global network of over 140 partner universities and organisations.

 

Master of Communication and Media (commencing 2022)


The Master of Communication and Media focuses on fostering creativity and innovation in a real-world setting, equipping graduates with the skill sets required to lead and manage the future communications environment. Place yourself at the forefront of a dynamic and ever-changing industry and strategically tailor this degree to expand your career opportunities. You are able to undertake a unique capstone subject of a creative project, or a mini-thesis completed under academic supervision.

Be part of the innovation movement as you learn how to adapt and thrive with creative, technical and conceptual skills that will diversify your future. There are various study options available in this portfolio depending on your education and professional experience.
