Bachelor of Science (Honours) - Physics

Course summary

Physics is a fundamental science and the foundation of engineering and other applied sciences. Physics is also utilised in an enormous variety of other disciplines ranging from climate studies to financial systems. Physicists have a very solid knowledge of the physical universe and apply this knowledge to initiate new and innovative ideas to further human development. They also solve complex problems and develop models to better understand and predict the behaviour of intricate systems.

This degree

If you who have fulfilled the requirements of a Bachelor Science (Physics) and achieved the required academic standard, you may undertake the Bachelor of Science (Physics) Honours involving a further year of research training in the discipline. The RSU Honours website provides lots of useful information regarding research opportunities, scholarships and application procedures.

What you will study

The Honours degree provides you with the first real opportunity to undertake research on a topic of your interest. The Honours year is particularly important as it represents a gateway to future research opportunities, both in the form of higher research degrees and as a career in research, or to other vocations that require advanced analytical and research skills.

Admission, Key dates, and Fees

A range of admission options are available for students of all ages and academic backgrounds.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Students may apply to enrol in an Honours degree after meeting the requirements of a 144-credit point Bachelor of Science degree, which includes PHYS305, PHYS325, PHYS375, PHYS385, PHYS396 and PHYS335 or PHYS390 at the prescribed academic standard. This standard is normally an average of at least Credit level for the 300-level subjects in the major study.
Admission to Honours is by approval of the Head of the School of Physics and acceptance by an academic supervisor in the discipline.

FEES

Commonwealth supported students are required to pay a student contribution amount towards the cost of their course. The amounts are calculated based on the subject cluster and the Equivalent Full-time Study Load (EFTSL) value of the subject.

* Session fees are for one session for the year shown. Total course tuition fees shown are indicative, and are based on normal course length and progression.
These fees are subject to change from year to year. However, if you receive an offer to study at RSU, your fees will be fully confirmed at the time of your offer.
