The Graduate Diploma in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) is designed for TAFE or Vocational Education teachers whose employers require them to have an in-depth qualification. This program is also for experienced educators looking for a higher specialist qualification in ESL teaching.

The RSU Graduate Diploma in TESOL offers sound theoretical foundations and extensive practical skills that address the broader aspects of education and training.
This course has six core subjects, two elective subjects and includes a professional experience placement. These subjects are a combination of online and DL delivery, with the option of completing your study entirely by distance.
What you will study
This degree will provide you with the skills to teach English language to students, with a focus on international contexts and catering for diversity in the classroom. In addition to exploring teaching methods and common grammar issues, you will also undertake a supervised professional experience placement in an ESL classroom.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
It is assumed that students will have at least a three-year undergraduate degree, preferably including subjects related to the teaching of English (for example, TESOL, English Literature, Applied Linguistics). No teaching experience is required.

Tuition fees are reviewed annually: fees payable are dependent on the year of commencement and are subject to increase during the period of study.
The fee per session is based on a standard full-time load and is equivalent to 24 credit points, ie 4 subjects.

Course Structure
The Graduate Diploma in TESOL requires the successful completion of 48 credit points including:
a. 6 core TESOL subjects (36cp); and
b. 2 elective TESOL subjects (12cp).
It is recommended that VET, ELICOS and DE teachers complete EDGT983 as an elective subject if they wish to qualify as ESL teachers.
